Learning and developing

Creating opportunities

Daisy Room provides children with many different opportunities both adult-led and child-led. At this stage, the children love their independent play but also group interactions. We create opportunities for the children to thrive in both personal and social experiences.

The children begin to start to role play and show interest in particular activities for example, construction, dressing up, babies, cars etc. They have access to all types of activities that involve messy play, role play, crafts, baking, drawing, free play and reading stories.

Following a structured routine

But also having lots of fun!

They continue to follow a structured routine with a group morning time, looking at seasons, weathers, days of the week and the letter of their name. Also, preparing for mealtimes and outdoor play. The children have access to the outdoor area from this room, they play outdoors on the garden twice a day, giving them the opportunity to exercise while exploring.

Daisy Room also has access to their own kitchen area and bathroom. This has several facilities for the children to use e.g., toilets, nappy changing area and it gives them the opportunity to explore in toilet/potty training. They take part in things such as group time, scissor work, pencil control, mathematics, and literacy activities. They begin looking at topics and events around the world, taking part in activities based on these. During morning time, we continue going into more depth with the letters of their names, months of the year etc.

Exploring and developing

Encouraging important skills

The children start to develop knowledge of their community, surroundings and the natural world, we enjoy taking trips to places like our local library, parks, pet shops, supermarkets etc. Daisy Room has access to the outdoor playground and will go out twice a day, one in a morning and again in the afternoon.

The children love to explore outside using the equipment for example, the pedal bikes, scooters, trikes, balls, chalks etc. They enjoy using their imagination to create their own role play games. We encourage important skills such as sharing and being considerate of others.
